Wooden bear wearing scarf

I try to find a use for as much off-cuts of wood as I can, so that I waste as little as possible. These bears are cut using a band saw from what would have been waste wood of other woodworkers who work on a larger scale.
Once I have cut them, I drill holes for the eyes, sand them, soften the edges, oil them and then carefully hand paint the sides. Each bear is given three or four layers of colourful paint and finished with a layer of satin toy varnish.I cut out the card details and glue them into place. These bears are each give a special scarf crocheted by my friend Hannah Collison.
